January Quilt Group 2012

We were all glad to get together again after not meeting in November and December.

Glenna Reporting:

Mary Ann opened her home to us and it so fun to see all her quilts and the fun things she has in her home.

Mary Ann is showing her Christmas Packages Quilt.

Mary Ann also told us about her new project.
"The Farmers Wife" Quilt.
She just whipped up 35-40 blocks already.
Can't wait to see the finished quilt.

This is my Christmas Package Quilt. I call it" Grandma's Gifts".
I just happened to have 25 Grandchildren in 2011.
I did put a few extra on the back just in case.

My "Scrappy Quilt" Blocks ready to sew together.
8.5 inches and I am doing 9x9.
Next month!

Peg brought some packages from her new business "Snaps!" Cookies and treats for any occasion.

Maryann has been doing lots of sewing for others. She made 24 of the stockings for Christmas.
Maryann and Rachelle made tons of Christmas Tree Ornaments for the "Sunshine Acres" Children Home for Christmas.
Maryann also made a huge move during the holidays.
We all love your positive attitude Maryann.

This just might be a quilt for her new bedroom.

Maryann found some things while moving and brought 4 of her "Round Robin" Quilts form her quilt group in Florida.

Rachelle made these two baskets we learned to make in October.
Great patterns made with her fabric.

Rachelle is always good to do the Planet Patchwork New Years Mystery Quilt. They post the instructions on-line on New Years day. Great job Rachelle.

This show be in the Heard Museum. It is a basket made from pine needles. Unbelievable!
Only Rachelle would think of making this.

JoAn finished her "Attitudes" Quilt.
It is so colorful and cheerful.

Vickie show the bag she made from a rag rug.

Vickie told a story about the Grinch tradition in he family. She made this fun quilt for a Sister-in-law.

October Quilt Group 2011

Maryann was our host of our October Quilt group.
Maryann learned how to make the baskets and she taught us how to make them.

After the cord is wrapped with 1 inch fabric you start sewing the cord together with a zig zag using a denim needle.

Once you get it started it goes fast.

When the bottom is the size you want, you lift it up and continue to sew and it makes the curved sides

You keep sewing until it is the size you want.

We had a smaller group but we still had our "Show and Tell"

September Quilt Group 2011

Thursday we gathered at Jeanene's for our September Quilt group

It was so great to get together and visit.

We have a "Show and Tell" and that gives us an excuse to do some sewing but sometimes life gets in the way.

"Show and Tell" this month:

Jan finished the top of the "Wonky" quilt she started at our June meeting, Love the Black and Yellow.

I thought of a name for this quilt.
"I'm a little bit Wonky and a little bit Yellow and Black"
Might be a little long.

Jan also Made this football quilt for a Grandson.
So great for a boy.

Peg's colorful quilt in shades of purple.

Peg calls this pattern "Round Tu it"

Glenna was determined to finish this quilt some of us started at least a year ago.

I'm Thinking
"Quilt with an Attitude" Or something like that.
Any Ideas?

Mary Ann took a class and made the awesome bag. Lots of decorative stitches along the seam lines.

Mary Ann also made this Great banner for her husbands birthday.

Mary Ann is taking a class to learn to how to make fabric baskets. She is going to show us how to make them next month,

Jeanene blew us all away with this project she has been working on for a friend. Her friend died in a car accident and she took 3 or 4 bags of her clothing to make memory quilts for her Mother, Sister and Daughter.

She has the tops finished

August Quilt Group 2011

It was my turn for Quilt Group this month.
Because it was August I pulled out my "Watermelon" Quilt to get in the mood.
The challenge I gave everyone this month was to
"finish" one project.
We all have so many projects started this was a good time to finish something.
( Finished could be anything you want it to be.Finished top, quilted or all three).

Our 1st Surprise was that Donna Came.
Donna has been caring for her husband who was in an accident on his Motorcycle and it is very serious.
His Mom and Dad have come into town to help out and the Dad stayed with the Husband and Donna brought his Mom with her to quilt group for a little R & R .
We were giving Donna a pass for the challenge and she showed up with two quilts she had quilted for donations.

Donna's second quilt a quilt "I Spy".

Vickie brought this awesome scripture bag made from a place mat. She was running out of time and could put on the handle on or the flower. We are so glad she put on the flower. It is adorable.

Hedy finished her "Pinwheel" quilt that was a project last year.
I love those Pinwheels!

She sent this to a Utah quilter Elizabeth.
Very nice.

This quilt is really finished.
Binding and Quilt label. Done!!!

Peg is working on getting a daughter ready for a Mission.
Peg made this darling blouse for Maddie.

Peg made a gift for a friends new Grandson. You can recognize the flannel blanket.
On top is a set of "Pee Pee TeePee's".
Yes it is just what you think.
Leave it to Peg to come up with this.
They say they work great.

I (Glenna) have brought this quilt before but it fits in the challenge because Utah Sister said I needed to add two more rows so the quilt will be square and will fit the bed in the guest room "Granny Room". Now it is ready to quilt and finish.

Jan brought the main part of her quilt finished.
She has "Flying Geese" for the border.
Love the Red and White.

Jan finished the borders on her "Scrappy Dot" quilt on Point.
Great choice of colors for the borders.

Jan is up to about 20 blocks of her "All about her A to Z".
Six more to go.

Mary Ann (new member and cousin of Glenna and Peg) took the challenge and finished this adorable quilt she started a while back.

And this "Apron "quilt she quilted herself. This was a block of the month hand applique. This represents hours of sewing with a needle and thread. Good Job!

Mary Ann also shows a bag she made. The bottom is mesh and makes a good beach bag.

JoAn is so excited about her new twin Grandsons.
She had to borrow the quilts she made for them so she could bring them to show.
The blue of is for "River" and the Green one is for "Maiz".

Jeanene slipped in at the end (because of a meeting ) but we were so glad to have her come.
She brought a project she is working on for a dear friend. She has passed away and she is taking some of her clothing and making a remembrance quilt for the Mom, Sister and Daughter.

This seems overwhelming to most of us but Jeanene is an artist and it is going to be fabulous.

We usually bring things to put into the center to draw at the end. We call it "white elephants" but it is anything a quilter would like. Tonight we brought things for our friend Donna. Things that would give her a lift and let her know we care about her. We were so excited when she came and we could give it to her in person.

Because I used the "Watermelon Quilt" we had to have watermelon. Peg told me about a "Peanut-butter" Dip she makes. It goes well with apple and strawberries. So this was our lite snack.
So great to be together again .
We did miss a few and you were missed.

Peanut Butter Dip-Peg's

2 C. Creamy Peanut Butter

1 8 oz. pkg Neufchatel cream cheese (room temp)

1/2 C. packed Splenda Brown Sugar blend

1 t. Vanilla

1 C. unsweetened Almond Milk

Cream together Peanut Butter and cream cheese

Add Sugar, Vanilla and milk

Mix well

Refrigerate until serving

Sewing/Craft Room Ideas and Updates...

Hello everyone! Welcome to my sewing room. Grab a cup of your favorite something and spend some time with me. I just love when friends drop by! I've done 2 other posts on my sewing room in the past. The first was when I first moved into my room after a very devastating flood in my basement and the second post was after a big clean up.

Well, this post is about a clean up, a few furniture moves and it also includes links to a lot of the projects I've done on my Tool Time Tuesdays posts since the beginning. All words that are printed in red will be links to a tutorial post!!

Remember I am a thrifty person and rarely, if ever, do I spend full price for any thing. I repurpose, paint and use thrift store finds in my sewing room. So if you think you can't have a sewing room or a craft space, just look around your home and I'm sure you'll find things to paint and put together to make a great work area.

So here is the room all cleaned up and a few tables moved around.

Don't get use to this, because it doesn't stay like this for very long...

Seeing that this is where it came from, I'm sure it won't take me long to go back.

Seriously, it was worse in person.

For some reason, I work well like this!

This frightful picture is in the middle of moving things in and out and changing things around. It definitely gets bad before it gets better when you're moving stuff.

Ok, now we are all back together, let's start in one section of the room and work our way around. This wall holds all my crafting and sewing supplies.

The boxes are Sterilite plastic shoe boxes from Walmart...98 cents. I have been collecting those for years. I always buy white so they will always match over time. Each one is label in the front.
The frame with the metal in it is from a thrift store...cheap! The small take out cups hold small beads, screws and office supplies and are stuck up there with magnets. Click here for that post

To the left of that cabinet is my Vertical Coffee Can project. I originally made that for spray paint cans, but now I use it for all my strings. Click here for that.

I hot glued a tape measure on one side to measure out the correct length for a project.

The handle at the top holds the scissors to cut the string.

This chair is so old...over 15 years I think. It's great for my husband or the girls when they come in for a visit or just to sit when I'm do some hand sewing. The small table on the side is also a redo which you can see over at this post.

Here's a little peek under the chair's skirt. You can turn any piece of furniture into a beauty with slip covers.

We got rid of the family office space now that the girls are both in college, so I moved all the house paper work and such to my office in my sewing room. Now I really need to be organized with this desk.

2 old window frames with cork in one and calendars in the other keep all the important info right there in front of me. Here is the post for this project.

Can't forget the jumbo button wall decoration above my desk. That post was so popular. This is made from a cheese board!

A 25 cent thrift store find hangs on one of the legs to hold all my reading glasses!

A file for important papers right where I can find them.

The spike paper holder keeps little notes that I jot down very organized. Here's that tutorial for the spike paper holder.

My grandfather's old ruler and oil can are great picture holders for decoration.

Just twist up a piece of wire and stick it in the oil can to hold your picture.

On the right side of my desk is a double side picture frame. One side is a picture and the other holds all my user names and passwords. See this post for that tutorial.

I have 2 daughters who have grown up way too fast, but I keep their old Slinky's to remind me when they were little. I keep my most important "To Do" notes in there. I miss my girls something awful!

Now going under my desk...every square inch of space is important. This file box holds greeting cards.

These cheapo office boxes are the perfect size for hanging files. Who needs a file cabinet when a cardboard box works just as well.

Still underneath the desk...this is an old TV stand that I added 2 shelves to. The black trays were in a clearance section in Staples office supply. They hold all my different papers for the printer.

Each tray is labeled.

This was a very old china cabinet not being used in the basement. A coat of black paint, glass doors taken off and crown molding added. All the crap up on top...decorative plastic grocery bags, but filled with stuff.

These magazine holders have all the computer and printer information and instructions. The magazine holders are made from cereal boxes...tutorial here.

The handles for them are Pipe Straps found in the electrical section of the hardware store.

3 ring binders hold all my patterns and inspiration pictures.

This binder is filled with those plastic sheet protectors.

All the pages neatly protected and you can easily see all your patterns or important papers.

Each pattern just loads in from the top. See here for a guest post that I did with a lot more tips.

These boxes hold so much too. These boxes are Propel water boxes. I just glued strips of fabric on the outside of the box and used the pipe straps again for the handles.

Holds tape and so many other office and craft supplies.

Hang tags dangle from a key ring.

Next section of the room is my crafting table.

hot glue guns are resting on a silicone mat for easy clean up...click here
glue gun plugs into surge bar with lamp attached. If the lamp is on...that is your signal that you left your hot glue gun on!...click here for that.

Old wooden boxes are label with a galvanized Light Switch plate. Just screw it into the box for a cute label plate.

An old thrift store find is now my tool box.

This wall unit is 3 old cheapo laminate book shelves, painted, thin paneling removed and bead board added to the back for support and crown molding added to the top.

Seriously...crown molding and paint can turn junk into a jewel.

These are just tension rods in one of the shelf sections. All my ribbon is stored here. Easy peasy! There is a yard stick attached to the shelf and scissors tied on with a ribbon, so they are always there.

Plastic popcorn buckets are a cute way to store fabric and scraps!

Wooden plate racks can hold quilting rulers or your accu quilt cutters.

Here is my mom's old pot rack. Keeps my old quilt collection and miscellaneous projects close at hand.

Having an electric pot in my sewing room is great too. Boils water in just a few seconds.

This is my sewing table. Very low for me...I'm a shorty at 5' 3" or maybe less now...haven't checked lately!! I made this with 2 old side tables painted black and a hollow core door from Home Depot for $18.00. Click here for that post

This is an old toothbrush holder for my small gadgets next to my machine. The pin holder is from the automotive store. It a magnetic car parts holder, but great for pins.

An old tool box holds all my thread.

Golf tees with flower glued on top will keep the matching bobbin with the right spool of thread. Also don't forget the little hair scrunchy that keeps your bobbin from unwinding.

This stand is from the office supply. Holds paper while you're typing...but for me it holds pattern instructions when I'm sewing.

My sister bought me a bunch of these yard sticks...

I think I might put them on the edge of my sewing table.

Here's a little small desk painted black to match. An extra spot when the girls are in here sewing with me.

This is my cutting table in the center of the room.

The cutting table is elevated higher than the other 2 tables, for ease of cutting...you don't have to bend over as much.

Just add finials to the bottom of your legs. See the white line I added so you can see the extra piece that makes the table higher.

You can also use the plastic bed risers that you can buy in Walmart for $8.00 for a set of 4.

Here is a picture of the only drawer on my cutting table. It holds all my quilting rulers. I'm showing you this for the handle idea. I changed out the knob for a spool of thread...click here for that idea.

On top of the table...I lined up metal boxes and labeled them to hold all the scraps that I cut down to size as I am cutting out a quilt.

Each box holds squares or strips from 1 1/2 inches all the way to 4 1/2 inches. Keeps your scraps organized and you don't have to cut them down later if you do it as you are sewing.

This is an old mug tree (holder) that I now use for my scissors and rotary cutters. Keeps them off the table and not buried under fabric.

Big metal galvanized tubs from the hardware store hold batting and fabric that isn't 100% cotton. When we have family functions, I also use these to hold soda, water and beer bottles.

and lastly...I mounted curtain rods on all three sides of my table. They hold freezer paper, Heat and Bond and other rolls of paper. Easy to cut off, always easy to find and not wrinkled.

June Sewing Group

We changed things up for the summer. We brought our machines and did some sewing.

We are all trying to use up our scraps so we were used the scrappy Log Cabin. We used fabrics we had in our stash.

Each one will be so unique.

Peg was our host this month. She had everything ready for us to sew for a few hours.

Peg and Glenna's cousin Mary Ann was able to join us and we welcome her. I didn't get any pictures of her or her project so if you send me a picture or two I will add it to this post.

I also missed a picture of JoAn so I put the pictures of JoAn with the quilt that was the inspiration for this project. JoAn has one more row to add to her scrappy quilt.

Peg is using Black and White

Glenna is using all my light scraps.

I started on some of the blocks before and couldn't stop.
I still have lots of fabric scraps.

Vicki's is using a very cute collection.

Jeanene brought two quilts for show and tell.

Donna is making Denim Pillows.
She found some at a shop in Scottsdale for around $400.00 a pillow. What?

Jan always puts great colors together.

We heard yellow is the "new" in color.

Mary Ann brought this quilt to show. Some ladies a another quilt guild made these blocks and Mary Ann designed and put them together. This quilt has lots of personal touches.

Graduation Quillows

This is Sarah, Glenna's Granddaughter and her graduation quilt.

These two went to twin nieces.

We used satin for the back .
We love the way it looks and feels..
but are not crazy about sewing it.

When the quillow are folded they make a Pillow!

May Quilt Group 2011

Jan was our Host this month. She has been telling us about her remodeled sewing room and she gave us a tour It is fabulous. This is Jan in front of her design wall.

Some of us were in the pictures with the new cutting table and lots of shelves to show off her Quilts and sewing things.

Vickie is making Pillow case cuffs for her Missionaries.

Rachelle is in another quilt group and the challenge was to pick out two Crayola's and make a block using those two colors and Black and White. She picked Yellow and dark green.

For another block challenge she made 4 small turtles using 5 colors to create a block. Rachelle is the queen of making her patterns miniature.

Rachelle finished this UFO and did all the quilting.

Glenna and Peg have been working of graduation quilts and we will post them later.
We did make this little ragtime quilt for a niece that had a new baby boy the first of May.
This picture is before it was washed and fluffed.

Jan's friend (neighbor) Luann joined is and brought her I Spy Quilt to show.

Jeanene shows off her latest project she made practicing a new trick using "Glue" to piece blocks.
Jeanene says it is very easy and makes it precise.
Every point is perfect and she even glued down the binding so it will be easier to hand sew on the wrong side.

Donna had three quilts she just had quilted. This all from leftover fabrics.

We bring odds and ends to exchange each month and this month we had three Tips that were noteworthy.
# 1.This is the type of glue you use for gluing fabric. It needs to be washable the white school glue works also.

# 2. These a a great replacement for your rotary cutter. Find them at Harbor Freight and they are a fraction of the cost.
# 3. Spot Remover , Peg says it works great for all stains.

Hedy was our host and she started out with this fabulous Thimbleberries Quilt she finished

Hedy has been working on some UFO's and this is another very cute block of the month.

Jeanene just whipped up this little "peppermint" quilt. She saw the pattern in a magazine and figured out the pattern herself. Jeanene also told us a story about her husband trying to buy some fabric for her on E-bay. He lost the bid but she has a great husband that would send a letter to the seller and plead his case for losing the bid.

Our new quilting friend Adele came and brought a quilt she made for her husband with all his scouting badges etc.

JoAn finished another block she doing on her appliquéd quilt.

JoAn sent two quilt to Utah to be quilted.

Donna has been busy making quilts for the group she loves to donate to. "Newborns in Need"

The next two quilts were "quilt seeds" from the past quilt group.

Donna is so good to made quilts for others.

Glenna (me)and Peg have been working on 3 quilts for nieces graduating from High School. This is a project the sisters are doing in honor of our Mom.
Mom made Quillows for the graduation seniors. When she died we decided we would make Quillows for the last Grandchildren. We have three this year.
This is for one of the twins

Adam talked me into finishing his "Jean" Quilt this month.

This is a quilt for my own Grand daughter. It is made with one Jelly roll in Heather Bailey fabrics. Just sewn in strips and two borders added. Quilted by Jeanne.

Jan was inspired by the Red and White quilt show in New York. Can't wait to see what she does with this.

Mary Ann has been to a quilt retreat and it was a beach theme.
Rachelle made this bag for Mary Ann. It is reversible. the inside is made with fabrics that look like sand. So Creative

Rachelle bring a quilt she is making for a friend for her daughter for graduation.
It is a "over the top" T-shirt quilt.
She has added fabrics from dress fabric and T-shirts she wore during her school days. What a treasure.

A quilt Rachelle has been working on for a while. The blocks are little origami Hawaiian shirts with collars and sleeves.

Bags made with a special way to close, so clever.

Rachelle shows some her paper crafts she has been working on. The Paper Dolls are called "Flat Rachelle's" She made these and two of her friends also made one for them. The three are traveling and they each take one of the "flat" dolls of each of the ladies and the travel all over and they will be able to document the trip and stay in touch at the same time.
You crack us up Rachelle!

Peg couldn't show the project she is working on yet but she did show this quilt . It is one we are working on for the nieces.

We had a wonderful meeting, we love getting together.

Mexican Fruit Cake

Sift Together

2 C flour

2 C sugar

1/4 tsp salt

2 tsp baking soda

Stir in:

20 oz crushed pineapple (don't drain)

2 eggs

1 cup chopped pecans

Bake at 350 for 45 min in a 9 x 13 greased and floured pan.

Frost while still warm

Frosting:

1 Stick Margarine

1 8 oz pkg cream cheese

2 C Powdered Sugar

1 tsp vanilla

I learned all about I-Spy quilts at quilt group years ago and I continue to enjoy making them. These are my most recent efforts. The blonde is JoAn's darling daughter, Aubrey, the quilt is for her little guy. The other is my nephew's wife Kori, who is expecting a boy in June.

March Quilt Group 2011

Donna was our Host and she finished the top of this quilt. She saw the quilt at the March Quilt Show. After a few problems with the pattern and and contacting the designer she was able to get it right. I took a picture of this 3 times and I still didn't get the colors right but it is a great quilt. Thanks Donna for a fun evening.

JoAn started this cute basket block. She is doing this with hand appliqué and is enjoying this new Technic!

Love, Love, Love, this "Cowboy Quilt". JoAn bought this pattern while we were at the quilt retreat a few years ago.

Jeanene stared this quilt at the retreat also. Some of us wanted the pattern we liked it so much.
Jeanene know just how to put colors together.

I took a picture of these three bags of clothing. Jeanene has really got a project . She is making 3 quilts (for family)using fabric from a friends clothing.

Glenna got this pattern at the Mesa Quilt show.
The 2 1/2 inch squares are glued onto a background fabric then quilted 1/4 of an inch in on each block.
Really a fast quilt.

Our own quilt show in Mesa. I thought I would run down for just a few hours, but found some fun projects and some fun people.

Look who I found. We were able to check out most of the quilts together.
These are some of our favorites:

This "Schoolhouse" Quilt in Turkey Red.
Each house quilted different.

Do you recognize this Quilt? It is our Be Attitude Quilt on steroids!
So Great and So much more work.

We really liked this quilt but the name was fabulous.

We were looking at this quilt and we ask the volunteer to let us see the back and it happened to be her quilt. She was delighted to "Show and Tell" about the quilt. This is a quilt she made for her daughter and the fabrics are from her dresses. It has taken her ____ years (Donna and Hedy help me with the story).

The back label shows pictures of the daughter in some of the cloths. How fun is that?

February Quilt Group 2011

Look at these two "Shenanigans" I am talking about the quilts.
Every year after Valentines Day Peg and Glenna talk about making a St. Patrick's Day quilt. This year we jumped in and Peg made up the pattern and I helped with a few ideas. We pulled out all our green fabric and we actually had a sew day together. It was great fun and we both finished these quilts in a week. We even did our own machine quilting.
"Shamrock Shenanigans"
is what we named the quilts.

This is my reunion quilt ready for the quilter. At our past Arnett reunion we each brought 1 1/3 yards of Amy Butler Fabric. We had 30 people that wanted in. The fabric was cut into 5 inch squares and made up our own Charm pack. Each pack had 78 -5 inch squares to make any quilt pattern we wanted.
I bought a little extra fabric and added white Moda muslin and this is my quilt.

Inspired by a niece I just used a Heather Bailey Jelly Roll and made this easy easy Strip Quilt.
Very good practice for sewing straight lines.

Three of JoAn's friends join us for quilt group this month. Kathee brought this fabulous Antique quilt she found at a yard sale. They were asking $5.00 and she felt so bad she gave them $10.00. She needed some advice on how to repair and finish this quilt.

This is a Cross stitch Tablecloth Kathee's mom made when she was 16. She wants to have it quilted.

Donna always amazes us with the quilts she makes from
"Quilt Seeds".
This is a qult she made from sqraps she took home from last months exchange. So Great!

Miriam and Adele were two more guests. At first Miriam didn't want to show this quilt that she has been working on and when we saw it we couldn't believe this was one of her 1st quilts. We all loved it. The pattern, the fabric, everything.
Good Job Miriam.

Jeanene said she was into the Valentine Spirit.
She got out her red and white fabrics and started sewing.
She said it was for Therapy.
We called it "Fiber Therapy". (With fabric not Metamucil).
She brought 5 or 6 quilts to show all Red and White.

She calls this "31 Flavors" (Hand embroidery)

JoAn has really been busy sewing but not ready to show yet.
She also made this awesome scrappy quilt. I don't know what she is going to call it yet but someone suggested "O Scrap"!

Mary Ann is looking forward to getting started on a appliquéd quilt for her brother.
If it is on the Blog you have to finish it. That is the rule.

Rachelle finished two quilts she has been working on for a while. This Mystery Quilt...

....and quilt she made for her bed.

Rachelle brought the "chickens" again. You can't believe the work and detail in this work of art. Hundreds of little pieces of fabric hand appliquéd. Amazing!

Jan didn't want to show this quilt because "she" didn't make it. She got it at yard sale. She said he grandkids love it. Great idea for a pattern with half square triangles.

Vickie's friend Leann joined us also this month. She brought two quilts to show. This is a scrap quilt made with brights and black accents. She told us about her machine quilter. Call Vickie for details.

Leann's quilt also made for her Mom.

Leann is really excited about working with wool and brought some of her projects to show.

Vickie shows another apron from her Mother-in-laws dishtowels. Vickie is so creative.

Vickie brought this to show Leann but some of us had not seen it. Fun Bright Dresden Plate quilt.

Hedy told us about the little bag she made for one of her Primary Girls. She already gave the bag to the little girl. She said the little girl loved it and so did her mother!

JoAn was our host for February, we love coming to JoAn's.
She served over the top Frozen Bananas for a refreshing treat. Thanks JoAn!!

January Quilt Group @ Vickie's 2011

Jeanene started off the night with her completed 2010 challenge quilt. She is the first to put it together. We all loved the colors and it inspired us get get ours finished.

If that was not enough she brought 5 quilts she just picked up from the quilter. Did she know that we just had Christmas?

Cristi has been sewing for her daughter and also receiving blankets with self binding .

Cristi and her Mom have been doing hemstitching and have packets ready to go to crochet an edge.

Rachelle finished two more blocks of our challenge.

Rachelle did the Planet Patchwork New Years Day Mystery quilt. Rachelle always completes this challenge
and this one turned out really great.

Jewelry Rachelle made over the holidays. Rachelle is so creating.

Maryann brought a quilt to show. She is donating this quilt for an auction/fund raiser for a friends husband fighting cancer. Very Generous Maryann!

This quilt I have been working on for a few year. I am pleased the way it is turning out.
I have been making it up as I go.

I had to adjust on a some seams to make it work. What Err!

Donna's Fun Sudoku Quilt. She says it is totally correct.

Peg is showing the quilt she made of a new Grandson "Boston"coming in March. She found some great Aqua Minky to go on the back.

Peg also brought a quilt her daughter pieced. Everyone loved the color combinations.

Vickie Our Busy Host was has some dish towels of her Mother-in law. Vickie is making aprons out of them using the embroidery on the dish towels and adding a fabric flower and ribbon. So So Cute.

She uses all shapes.

Vickie served this wonderful fruit cobbler. Earlier in the evening the girls in Vickie's family got together for a little cooking class. They cooked while we were showing our quilts and then they served us cobbler for refreshments.
Vickie said she would post the recipe.
It was such a fun night.
We all missed getting together and we had a lot to catch up on.

After searching 684 garage sales, (just ask my daughter)
I found quilts!!! I am so excited!!
Yes. they are beyond shabby. I am not nearly as lucky as Mary Ann.
Although tattered, they still needed a good home, where they could be loved and appreciated. I can see that at one time they were beautiful. Hundreds of hours went into their creation. I always wonder about the person who made the quilt, what she looked like, where she lived and what her story was. I asked the woman I bought them from if she knew their history, she told me she purchased them from Craig's List, for far too much money.
She gave me a deal.
They now have a new home where they will be treasured.

Glenna: I don't know why I have to look so goofy but I am showing off this table topper I have been working on. I have been doing lots of sewing but not much to show.

Peg and Glenna's Sister Sally was in town for our quilt group. She brought this stunning quilt that all 4 sisters were going to do in 2010.

My daughter Kristen called to tell me that her 4 year old daughter Eliza came out of her room all dressed up, carrying a purse and wearing her barbie high heels. "I am going to quilt group", she said. "I know how to sew!"

I guess it's time to teach her. Maybe she will grow up to be a quilter!!

We had a smaller group this month and we missed those that couldn't come.
We did have a nice discussion and visit.
JoAn was our host and she started by showing a video. A Grandsaughter told the story of her Grandmother
and the wonderful quilts she made for her family.

Glenna finally finished the 1st block of a sisters project. "Quilts With a Spin". Only 8 more to go!

I had to show these "Pencil Sleeping Bags" I made for Grand Daughter's kindergarten class.
The teacher said they were losing pencils and they will tape these to the desk. At the end of the day they will put their pencils to bed and let them sleep.
They will always know where to find a pencil.

We are planning to have the quilt retreat July 12 - 15th, I think it went great last year with the meals so we can plan the same, let me know what you would like to do.
